The clinical informaticist integrates their knowledge of clinical experience with a deep understanding of data and analytics to identify and build new solutions to existing healthcare problems. Using their understanding of clinical workflows, applications, and processes, the clinical informaticist will uncover potential areas for the advancement of health by combining clinical knowledge with statistical techniques and healthcare data analysis.
The clinical informaticist will work within multi-functional teams involving technical and clinical experts to anticipate, identify and resolve challenges faced by the organization. Because of the team environment, the clinical informaticist should also display exceptional communications skills and an ability to proactively locate potential problem areas as they relate to informatics and develop appropriate solutions. The ideal candidate should also display effective project management skills and the ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams. Reporting to senior management on findings and recommendations through reports, presentations, research papers, and/or other materials will also be required.
Qualifications

Understanding of clinical systems used in health organizations such as Electronic Health Records, Clinical Decision Support, and other clinical workflow improvement tools

Advanced understanding of identifying sources of, collecting, and analyzing data and metrics using various statistical methods, technical processes, and programs such as R, Hadoop, natural language processes and noSQL and SQL databases

An advanced understanding of data structures, database design, and basic IT infrastructure principles

Familiarity with the clinical development process and an ability to identify areas for improvement in clinical workflows

Proficiency in project management
Responsibilities

Work with Clinical, Administrative and Analytics leadership to develop and implement a methodology and strategic plan for clinical informatics in the organization

Collaborate with clinicians and health administrative leaders to build and provide analytics in areas including care variance analysis, population health management and predictive analytics

Define what information and insights are needed by whom, when, and for what purpose, and help develop rich and meaningful analytics, visualization, reports, and presentations most appropriate to users based on their role that enable and facilitate clinical insights and actions to improve patient outcomes

Communicate report outcomes with executive staff and develop recommendations on how to implement issue resolutions

Work with the Software and Data Sciences team to help develop appropriate algorithms, rules, and predictive analytics to continually enhance the value of information provided to users that improve patient management and clinical outcomes.
